Kid's Fest in Burien

The city of Burien  (Burien is about 15 minutes north of us) had a kid's festival two Saturday's ago.  My old friend Sabrina was spending the day with us, so Mom decided that we should go.... 

 There were lots of booths

 I really liked this robot (made by teenagers)-you could give/receive a box from it.

 There was also this T-rex that almost got me!!

We both broke boards at a Tai Kwon Doe place.  Sabrina does karate and I do hapkido.

The parks department was taking a survey from children about what kind of park they would want to play in.  Sabrina and I both picked the Urban Park.  It looked like it would be the most fun.

Later that same day, we went to a bamboo nursery.  My folks are thinking of planting some in the front yard.

Upcoming Suessical

I will be playing part of the Who Chorus for the Bridge School's musical in January of 2018.  Mom is making all of the costumes.

 This will be my wig.

Sabrina is helping me model Mr. Mayor's wig and Mrs. Mayor's wig.

Uncle Colin, Aunt Lori, and Cousin Sophie came for a quick pre-christmas visit to Seattle.  We decided to use the Who wigs to remember the moment.

Kent Mountain View Academy's first elementary concert

 My school hired a music teacher this past fall, so we  had a Holiday Concert on December 14th.  Here I am with my good friend Seth.  My school has a little gymnasium, so it was crowed with students and parents.

 You can see me right in the middle.  I sang the only solo in the concert.  I wasn't afraid because I have been doing Improvisation for almost a year and a half and have been in one theater production-my second one will be Seussical in January of 2018.

We also played guitars.  Unfortunately, I am not very good.  I am being taught how to play one like a right-handed person.  That might be the problem...

Sabrina was there too. I really enjoyed being in the spotlight.

Back to school-5th Grade!

I cannot believe that I am in 5th grade!  3rd and 4th flew by.  They are splitting my class this year and adding new students.  Andy is going back to the Bridge School.  I will miss him.  I took this picture with some of my friends.

What has been going on in February

I haven't been going to a lot of school in February!  Last week the Seattle lowlands got snow and the Kent School District was closed for three whole days!  This was Monday, February 6th.

 During these pictures, we did not have power.  The snow was wet and heavy so a lot of power lines broke.  Fortunately, we got the power back on after 6 hours.  Everything was so quiet even though we live in a metropolitan area.  Even the plane traffic had stopped.

Mom shoveled the neighbors driveway across the street and took this picture of me.  Tuesday, February 7th, I planned to miss school anyway because I was going on a field trip with the Bridge School to visit KUOW, our local National Public Radio Station.

Dad came with us too!

We started out in the conference room, but we got the tour and we even saw people talk on the radio! Wednesday, February 8th, Andy Sabrina and I went swimming to at the Federal Community Center.  All the Federal Way kids were in school, so we only had to share the pool with a handful of other kids.  Here are Andy & Sabrina in the dry sauna.  I love to warm up in this room.

The three of us spent most of the time swimming the lazy river.  Back to school on February 9th.  This week, we only go to school for half days due to conferences.  Next week we are off because it is mid-winter break!  No school February!

Crystal Mountain

Yesterday, Tuesday, January 31 rst was a teacher workshop day, so my Mom took Andy & I skiing at Crystal Mountain.  She also invited Lana and Sabrina.  Crystal Mountain is right next door to Mt. Rainier National Park.  The day was kind of cloudy and we set out early to get to the mountain a little after 9:00 am.

 I was more nervous than my friends.  Sabrina had never skied before and Andy skied with me 4 years ago at Snoqualmie Pass, when were both in kindergarten at the Bridge School

 The clouds were low, or we were high....

 I managed to make it down ok.  All three kids did wipe out from time to time.  My Mom skied at the back to make sure that us kids made it down ok.

 Because we are in the Cascades, there are tons of fir trees dusted with snow.  It was really pretty.

 Sabrina was having trouble with the chair lifts.  Mom was able to help her.  Now she can ride them like she's been skiing for years.

 We had lunch in the chalet.

 We took an express chairlift up higher to ski more challenging green runs.  This chairlift was large enough for all of us.

 The clouds came in and it was a little eerie .

We stayed until the chairlifts stopped at 4 o'clock.  We were all tired, but had a really good day.  I told Mom that I wanted to go back.

December

 So far December has been a fun month!  We got a little snow about tens days ago, but still had school!!!!!  That's Sabrina.

It's still dark when we get to school, because school starts at 8:00 am.

Mom taught art to all the elementary classes.  She found this great project on drawing the Northern Lights.  Here is mine:

I also have Hapkido, and on Thursday's, Sabrina comes too, so Thursdays are always more fun.

 We got to be partners.

 Grand Master took me down to demonstrate what we were learning.  It happened so fast!

I am glad that school is finally out for Winter Break, but fortunately, there will still be Hapkido to do!

Leveled up!!!!!!

I was surprised when I when to Hapkido last night, that I was one of three students that received a white belt with a black stripe in it.  Master Aaron presented me with it.  

 

 I have been at Hapkido for less than two months and have been working hard to learn their techniques.  Grand Master Kim has told me that my 4 years of karate has helped.  The black stripe was not earned through a belt test, but by the black belts that run the class.  The black stripe represents that I am a focused student.

 It was nice that my Dad came to the class and  tied my new belt on.  I look good with a black stripe!

It was a good class, but I have to wait a whole week to go back because of the Thanksgiving Holiday.

Yesterday, I also tried some Lamb Briani at Lana & Sabrina's house.  My Mom was surprised to see me Indian food and took this picture below.  I picked out the lamb, but ate all the rice.
